Abstract: The study assesses the state of the food systems of the developed countries of the world, considers the effects of the impact of the COVID-19 virus. The challenges of COVID-19 in food supply chains and the degree of resilience that supply chains have demonstrated in developed countries are analyzed. The impact of COVID-19 on various types of food transportation is considered. Complementary and mutually reinforcing trends affecting food systems during the COVID-19 pandemic have been identified. The impact of COVID-19 on consumer demand is analyzed. An assessment is made of the impact of COVID-19 related trends in food systems affecting aspects of food security. The interdependence between the COVID-19 pandemic and the components of food security is examined, indicating the significance of each of the components in the analysis of the consequences of the food crisis in terms of food security. Some measures have been identified to prevent a food crisis caused by the consequences of the spread of COVID-19. There is a significant need to move towards a more forward-looking food systems policy package.
