Abstract: In the dairy sector of Russia, only a number of regions make a significant contribution to the increase in the production of the sub-sector. The Saratov Region can potentially be included among such entities, the level of self-sufficiency in milk of which has consistently exceeded 100% over the past five years. In this regard, it is necessary to create a set of tools, approaches and methods that will allow in the future to identify the strongest, stably functioning business units that represent a solid base for the development of the sub-sector. This will make it possible to build a field for further research in terms of identifying the conditions and factors of sustainability of the analyzed objects, as well as eliminating barriers to its formation. The article proposes the author's approach to assessing the sustainability of dairy cattle breeding organizations, based on a point-rating system for analyzing the efficiency of the studied milk producers based on a set of statistical indicators, including the identification of a number of criteria reflecting the main production and financial results of their activities, the level of specialization, regularity of budget support, and sales potential. The grouping method was used to identify three main groups of milk producers in the region: low-stable, medium-stable and highly stable enterprises, which included 20, 20, and 3 business entities, respectively.
