Abstract: The relevance of the research topic is due to the need for an objective assessment of the provision of the population with high-quality and safe food. In a review and analytical article, the author examines the problems of providing the population with safe and high-quality food products. A comparative analysis of the consumption of basic foodstuffs with physiological norms was carried out in the group of constituent entities of the Russian Federation that are in the last five in terms of per capita income: the republics of Ingushetia, Kalmykia, Karachay-Cherkesskaya, Mordovia, Tyva. The article provides comparative analysis data in the studied de-compressive regions, reflecting the compliance of food samples with sanitary and hygienic standards. The regulatory framework for food security, food safety and quality control was reviewed. The analysis showed positive trends in providing the population with quality food as a result of the growth in the production of basic types of food. The problem of the quality of food raw materials and food products remains unresolved and requires improvement of the regulatory framework, legislative consolidation of the right of citizens to safe and high-quality food.
