Abstract: The article considers some theoretical aspects of the institutions of investment and innovative development of the agro-industrial complex (AIC) of Russia. The basic principles of functioning and criteria of the institutions of investment and innovative development of the agro-industrial complex are considered and disclosed, taking into account the division of intensive industrial and organic agriculture. The authors consider development institutions as a holistic object and in the relationship of its components - the institute of generating ideas and creating innovations, the institute of financing innovation, the institute of introducing innovation. It is noted that the current institute of investment and innovative development of agro-industrial production directly depends on and is determined by the state and trends of the general macroeconomic policy and economic processes in the country, especially during periods of tension in the political, economic and social spheres, not to mention the sanctions levers of pressure from other states.
