Abstract: Food security reveals the state of national or regional food markets, covers the economic and social spheres of development of the country and regions. The national food security of the Russian Federation is fully determined by the ability of its regions to self-sufficiency. The authors note that the tasks of ensuring food security are complex, intersectoral and interdepartmental in nature. It is emphasized that they cover the social sphere (income, food consumption, social protection of the population) and the economic sphere (trade, urban planning, transport, etc. In each specific region, food security is determined by a number of specific factors that influence it. Food security is essentially a condition in which all people at all times have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe food in order to meet their own needs and preferences for an active and healthy life, which is confirmed by the results of the analysis. The leveling of threats to the economic security of the country and the region has a significant impact on the formation of a favorable economic environment and contributes to economic development, which is noted by the authors in the text of the article.
