Abstract: The economic sanctions imposed on Russia, the reciprocal ban on imports from the countries that joined the anti-Russian sanctions, food products, the depreciation of the rouble against major world currencies, the favourable natural and climatic conditions and the macroeconomic situation in the markets have become additional impulses for the development of a number of branches of the agricultural economics of Russia, increasing production volumes and saturating the domestic market with the main types of agricultural products. The harvests of grain of wheat obtained in recent years in our country allow us to fully meet the requirements for food grain, increase the supply of domestic livestock with grain, increase exports. The article analyzes the export potential of the Russian market of wheat grains, examines its relationship with the current state of selection of this crop. The main problems of domestic research institutions conducting grain selection work are shown, as well as the conditions under which the most complete realization of the export potential of the grain market is possible.
